Lootnick Singularity — the axe

Lootnick Singularity axe

First things first: the photographer is Rafał Paluszek, and I can't recommend him enough! His photos and videos will be with me for a long time. He has great taste and captures the spirit of my work perfectly.

I'm proud to present the Lootnick Singularity — my new weapon, which I've been happily recording with since the day I picked it up. The maker behind this little masterpiece is Lootnick, by far the best luthier I've met: a true devotee and a master of his craft. Thank you! The body is a single piece of swamp ash, the neck is ovangkol and the fingerboard is rosewood. Steel frets, with DiMarzio DP707 LiquiFire and DP708 CrunchLab pickups.

It's a 7-string with a 25.5"–26.5" multiscale. One striking detail is the missing headstock — and that's deliberate. A headstock is just one more hazard on a tight stage for a guitarist who moves around a lot, and there are tuning benefits too, though I won't bury you in the technical details.

You've probably noticed the image on the front of the body. That beautiful galaxy is the work of Szymon Chwalisz, a talented painter whose profile is well worth a visit — he creates deeply meaningful, often abstract, always striking pieces.

Why Singularity? A singularity is the point where all the laws of physics break down — a potential gateway to the unknown. For me, this instrument is a bridge between two worlds: reality, and the music it lets through into it. ...okay, back down to earth. :)

It plays beautifully and the neck work is masterful. I considered a set of Fishman Fluence Modern 7s, but I'll likely stick with that distinctive DiMarzio voice, which pairs perfectly with the Axe-Fx III. And to add a little fuel to the fire — you'll hear this guitar soon in a new song that's nearly done.

Stay tuned!
